This is the BBC website that i started designing using Div tags and floating the boxes to where i wanted them. I started adding information in but started to struggle with the rest of the boxes and information, and placing things where i wanted them.

This is my grid layout for my BBc website that i started designing. I copied the grid into photoshop then did a rough layout for my website using boxes.

Website design, final template

This is my final template for my website for homely house hotel. I have used Div tags and CSS style sheets to make it look like a web page. It is very simple at the moment but i hope to work on it a lot more and make it look presentable. i havent figured out what colours i will use for my final design but i will do that towards the end when i have made logos and completed the page layout and overall look.

Website Design Issues

There are a number of website design issues, some small, others quite large problems. One of these problems is bad search engines. Search engines help the viewer navigate the website a bit easier by letting them pinpoint what they are looking for by typing a word/words into a search box, then the website should take them to what they are looking for. Some websites cant cope with spelling mistakes and different grammar pronounciations.

Another big issue for website design is cross-browser compatibility. This is when a website may look fine on a mac for instance, but when someone tries to load it on a smaller screen on a normal computer or in a different browser the website could look completely different. For example it couldnt have half the page cut off.

Fonts can also be quite an issue when it comes to website design.a designer could have made a nice looking website with a font he/she has downloaded and then opened it up on another computer and it could look completely different. This is because fonts come installed already on the computer so if a new font has been downloaded will most likely not be on most other computers because they would have to download the font themselves.

Readability is very important in website design. If there is a big wall of text filling up a website people are'nt going to read it, as it looks dull and quite overwhelming. You need a good readible layout and well spaced words to make the website pleasing to the eye.

Another problem is the access speed for websites. Bad websites can be overloaded with images and writing, which fill up unessesary space and make the website hard to open on some smaller computers. This can mostly be solved by just creating different page links to different information.

Navigation can sometimes be very difficult. Links to other pages need to be big, clear and not scattered around the page. Page links should be togetehr at the top or side of the page so the viewer can see clearly what other pages are on the site.

Website design technologies

HTML

HTML, otherwise known as hypertext markup language, is the basic building blocks for webpages. it is a language used to create web pages and is written in the form of HTML elements. These elements consist of tags that are written in angled brackets. For instance <html>. These tags usually come in pairs, the first tag is the start tag and the second is the end tag. Web designers can add images, text and tables in between these tags.

Java

Java was released in 1995 and is another programming language used to create web applications. These java applications consist of bytecode that runs on any java virtual machine. Java is one of the most popular programming languages in use, particularly in client-server web applications. Programs that run on java are significantly slower than programs ran in a different programming language.

SWF

SWF is a file format for multimedia, vector grapgic and Actionscript in the Adobe flash environment.
SWF is the main format for displaying animated vector graphics. it is also used in browser games. SWF can run on the playstation 3, nintendo wii and playstation portable, all in there web browsers.
